Finalist – ICE Awards 2025

ECC Design & Engineering Named Finalist for ICE Awards 2025

ECC Design & Engineering is proud to announce its selection as a finalist for the prestigious ICE Awards 2025 in the Specialist or Specialist Services Contract category. This recognition celebrates ECC’s innovative contributions to the Limerick to Foynes railway project, delivered in collaboration with the main contractor, Sisk.

The project, the largest single rail initiative undertaken in the state for over 90 years, demanded precision and innovation to successfully upgrade and reinstate the freight line. ECC rose to the challenge by integrating cutting-edge surveying technologies, ensuring exceptional accuracy in track alignment and long-term infrastructure integrity.

By employing track geometry measurement trolleys, advanced GNSS systems, and total stations with precise site control installation, ECC enhanced surveying accuracy and alignment efficiency. The use of Snake Grid LIF024 and a coordinate convertor enabled high-accuracy post-processing to correct distortions over long distances, crucial for maintaining design specifications.

A key factor in ECC’s success was its acquisition of McDonald Surveys, bringing extensive rail engineering expertise from Australia. This strategic move introduced proven methodologies for tackling complex rail challenges, enriching the project with global best practices.

“Our ability to integrate advanced technologies with international expertise has allowed us to streamline construction workflows and set new standards in rail infrastructure projects,” said [Spokesperson’s Name], [Job Title] at ECC Design & Engineering. “Being named a finalist for the ICE Awards 2025 is a testament to our team’s dedication to excellence and innovation.”

The Limerick to Foynes railway project exemplifies ECC’s commitment to sustainable and high-quality rail construction. Through precision engineering and forward-thinking solutions, ECC has played a pivotal role in ensuring that the reinstated freight line meets modern regulatory and operational standards while supporting Ireland’s transport infrastructure goals.
