Since graduating from Queens University with an honour’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2000, John continued his professional development and is now a Chartered Member of Institute of Engineers Ireland, the Northeast Regional Director of BER Assessors Association of Ireland and is SIGA registered. Well-known and respected in the industry, over the last 20 years he has worked as Consultant Engineer with many of Ireland’s leading construction companies such as Mace Ireland, Mercury, Roadbridge, Glenbeigh Construction and Gibson Brothers and been engaged to work on projects such as: Swan Shopping Centre (Cinema) Rathmines, MSL Motors Potterton Road Dublin, Bewley’s Hotel Leopardstown Dublin, Numerous Industrial Buildings.
In 2001 John established MGM Civil Engineering which specialises in all aspects of Project Management, Building Certification, Structural Design and Site Based Services. In 2006, with the emergence of the Energy Sector, John, along with Colm Holmes established a sister company, Energy Surveys which evolved and has now grown into ECC encompassing BIM, Project Management Services, QA/QC, Site engineering, 3d laser scanning, Drone surveying, Land Surveying, Setting out and various Architectural/ Engineering Services – including Resident Engineer and Environmental Engineering. John provides his vision and professional acumen to managing numerous substantial Pharma, Hyper scale Data Centers and large infrastructure projects across Europe. On these projects he has been responsible for maintaining quality control and best practice while meeting specific targets and deadlines.
John and ECC are particularly proud to have been involved with the consultation period for HES Pilot Scheme to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people living with chronic respiratory conditions. John has also been involved in management of many subcontracts for Public Sector clients, including being part of the National Framework for Housing Upgrades, large batches of BERs for almost all 26 County Councils, Energy Certificates for the Dept of Ed and numerous road condition surveys.

A founding member of ECC Group, Colm has 20 years’ experience in the construction sector. Since graduating in 2002, he has continued his personal development by keeping his finger on the pulse of emerging trends and technologies in the sector. He was among the first qualified BER Assessors in Ireland, having undertaken the first SEAI accredited course, followed by Air Tightness Testing, Thermograph Imaging and more recently Sound Testing accreditations. In 2003, he became a member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (MCIAT) and in 2009, he was a founding member of the BER Assessors Association of Ireland.
Colm set up ECC in 2014 with his co‐director John McGoey, to provide expert services in a professional and efficient manner in the areas of Architectural, Surveying and Energy services. A keen technologist, he is proficient in AutoCAD Software Systems, DEAP II and MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint). He has carried out thousands of Air tightness tests, BER certificates and Thermal image surveys of both new and existing residential dwellings for numerous local authorities and also has extensive knowledge of: Project management, Energy efficiency ‐ BER Ratings before and after, Air Tightness Testing – before and after, Final Certificate and Sound testing, Architectural Design, Planning, Structural Surveys, Condition Surveys, Site Supervision
In his role as director Colm deals with clients from a range of sectors, including government bodies, local authorities, building contractors and the general public. Colm is particularly proud to have been involved with the consultation period for Home Energy Scheme (HES) Pilot Scheme. The aim of this scheme was to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people living with chronic respiratory conditions. During this pilot scheme ECC were responsible for maintaining quality control and implementing best practice to ensure we represented SEAI in proficient professional.

Derek is a Chartered Engineer, having qualified with honours in a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Dundee in 1996 followed by Chartership in 2005. His career has seen him work in large industrial sites at home and abroad in addition to small and medium local projects which have given him an in-depth knowledge of the Construction Industry.
With over 30 years’ experience in the construction sector, Derek has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the daily challenges that are an inherent part of working in this industry. He is acutely aware of the nuances of dealing with complicated and challenging situations as they arise and he provides fast, efficient workable solutions with a speed and ease that only comes with his level of experience and expertise making him an extremely accomplished and well-rounded engineer who is an integral and invaluable member of our team.
As ECC’s Senior Operations Manager, Derek is often the first point of contact for many of our clients, especially the larger engineering firms operating nationally and internationally. He has responsibility for client liaison, oversight and supervision of the prepared as-construction information surveyed plus contract administration and control within ECC, essential for client and company successful outcomes. Derek’s professional qualifications, industry experiences and his astute approach for detailed analysis, critique of complex contractual and operational structures, places him as a key position within ECC. His vast international portfolio, oversight of construction of the civil works, commissioning and completion of large projects, provide for his confident, professional and insightfulness approach to ECC’s operational environment, client focus with implementation and commissioning.
Derek’s knowledge, expertise and experience place him in a position where he can adapt the services provided by ECC to large corporations and one-off clients in equal measure and he manages ECC’s team of on-site engineers ensuring that our clients needs and expectations are not only met but exceeded.

Kate is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified from Dundalk IT with a Diploma in Business Studies & Accounting in 1999 and then going on to gain her chartership from ACCA in 2002. She has over 20 years’ experience managing accounts and payroll.
Over the course of her career, Kate has acquired a vast knowledge in accounting for a wide variety of industries, from small enterprises and sole traders to dealing with large international companies, including those who operate on some of the biggest data centres in the world.
Since joining ECC Group in 2018, Kate has gained significant experience in dealing with foreign tax authorities in a number of counties where we have employees based and the various criteria that have to be met in terms of foreign employee placements, in addition to the day to day running of the all aspects of the finance department of a company.

With almost 20 years of experience in the construction industry, David has acquired a vast range of skills that makes him one of our most versatile and experienced employees. Every year, David carries out a large number of BER’s including Non-Domestic BERs Air Tightness Testing and Structural Surveys throughout Ireland. This work is carried out on new builds, one off houses, housing estates, apartment complexes, industrial and retail premises.
In addition, David is a highly skilled Planning Consultant creating drawings for planning and construction purposes. He is also skilled in liaising with a large variety of individuals across a selection of disciplines in the construction industry which necessarily involves liaising with key personnel, ensuring the required information/reports are produced in a timely and efficient manner to not only meet, but exceed our client’s expectations.
David is with ECC since 2013 and during that time he has proven himself to be a versatile, highly skilled and much valued member of our team. Having worked with many of the largest housing agencies throughout this time, he has acquired a deep understanding of the needs of and dealing with clients in social housing and he has a natural empathy with the people he meets in the course of his work

As one of our team of Technical Service Managers, David brings over 11 years experience and expertise in the industry to ECC, ensuring our clients are provided with a fast & efficient service. Since graduating from Dundalk IT in 2011 with Bachelor of Science in Technology he has become an expert in all areas of energy surveying.
Since joining the team at ECC in 2018, David has undertaken various courses to improve his skill’s base in his area of expertise, such as Air Tightness testing and Ventilation. Over the course of his career, David has developed proficiency in AutoCAD Software Systems, DEAP 11 and MS Office 365 which has enabled him to carry out thousands of BER Tests, Part L Compliance Reports and Non-Domestic Bers for a large number of clients. He has an innate ability to work through large volumes of work in an efficient and effective manner resulting in high levels of client satisfaction. He has an excellent rapport with clients, both individual and commercial alike.
Whilst specialising in the domestic energy market, David has completed Part L specifications for 3 large apartment blocks in Dublin and Dundalk which included specifying methods of heating and ventilation along with insulation materials to comply with current 2019 regulation.

Alen is one of ECC’s most experienced senior engineers having qualified from the University of Rijeka in 2004. Since graduating, Alen has accumulated over 15 years of experience in both surveying and BIM Management, using state of the art equipment such as GPS, GNSS and spatial imaging devices to accumulate, interpret and analyse data on specific areas of land providing a vital service to the construction industry.
Prior to joining ECC Group, Alen conducted topographical surveys on greenfield sites, mountain ranges and coastal areas, worked on projects ranging from multi-storey apartment blocks and hotels, waste water treatment plants and civils, road construction, large scale chart production (state level), hydrographic surveys as well as laser scanning for 3D models. He is an expert at pipeline, road and building digital mapping and also site control for major projects, e.g. complex hotel construction.
Since joining ECC Group in 2018, Alen has specialised in BIM Management and Construction Management and has a senior setting out role on all projects he works on where he has honed his skills for extracting ion from the design model, updating the as-built model to ensure the used data is constantly up to date on site. He is an excellent communicator and works well as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Alen is also experienced at overseeing the setting out teams on site and ensuring all compliance checks are issued to the client in an efficient and timely manner.
He is experienced in all site engineering software such as Civil 3D, Navisworks and Revit, to name but a few and utilised this on large scale projects such as the Clonee Data Centre and the Ballycoolin Business Park for J Coffey Construction.
